In these last days of Lent, we are confronted with the mystery of why Jesus is persecuted, betrayed, and ultimately put to death. What makes the message of Jesus so threatening, so radical? Is it still that radical today?

What is my response to someone who displays extraordinary goodness and kindness — especially in situations where I am inclined to be selfish and defensive? Am I grateful for the kindness shown, or does it make me even more defensive?
