Divine Mercy Sunday: Doors Unlocked | One-Minute Homily

by | Apr 16, 2023 | One-Minute Homily, Videos

Jesus appeared to the disciples behind locked doors and brought them peace. Christian Verghese, SJ, invites us to allow Jesus into the locked doors of our hearts. Based on the readings for Sunday, April 16, 2023.

How have the doors of your heart been locked?

Hi, my name is Christian Verghese, and this is my One-Minute Reflection.

In today’s Gospel, the disciples hide in a locked room out of fear after Jesus’ passion and death.

Similarly, we all have places in our hearts where we lock the doors, whether it be memories we store with shame, bad habits we don’t know how to ask for help with, or vulnerable parts of our lives we don’t want to share.

This Sunday, we celebrate the Divine Mercy of God.

The resurrected Jesus does not wait for the doors to be unlocked, but rather quietly enters into the locked room and transforms the disciples’ fear into inner peace.

Let’s invite the risen Jesus into the locked places in our hearts and allow his Divine mercy to bring Easter peace to our deepest fears.
