James was graduate student at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California. He previously taught mathematics and chaired the department at Verbum Dei Jesuit High School in Los Angeles, where he also coached soccer and led the school’s integral ecology initiative. He holds degrees from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, Seattle University, and ITESO, the Jesuit University of Guadalajara, Mexico.
