Martin on Martin: Reviewing an eRetreat

by | Mar 20, 2013 | Uncategorized

Jim Martin continues to successfully make Ignatian Spirituality and, in truth, all of Catholicism readily accessible to any and all who seek.  His latest installation in his remarkable “ministry through media”, is an e-book that’s also an e-retreat.  It’s titled Together on Retreat.

What is the difference between an e-retreat and a regular retreat you might ask?  Not much, as it turns out, at least in the hands of Jim Martin, SJ.  Indeed, the newly created medium seems perfectly fit for Martin, whose pastoral, succinct writing voice is one of his greatest gifts, because it allows him to gently guide his reader-retreatant through the three prayer sessions contained in the text.  You can get a sense for that gentle presence, along with Martin’s hopes for the eBook, in this introductory video:

The preparatory section on prayer alone – wherein Martin carefully articulates various means of prayer as well as clearing up some common misconceptions – makes Together on Retreat an invaluable text long after the retreat itself has concluded.

Once more Jim Martin has found a new way to evangelize to the church in the modern world and it is no wonder that he is one of the most significant names in religion today.
