Jesus shares a parable about a king who invited everyone to his son’s wedding, but a guest is thrown out for not wearing the right clothes. Fr. Simon Zachary, SJ and Ty Wahlbrink, SJ encourages us to consider what we put aside in our interactions with God and with others. Based on the readings for the 28th Sunday of Ordinary Time.
Simon: Imagine being rejected from a wedding because you wore the wrong attire.
Ty: Yeah, I’d be mortified showing up like this.
Simon: In Matthew 22, Jesus shares a parable. A king throws a huge wedding feast for his son. He invites everyone, “whomever you may find”.
Ty: But one guest gets thrown into the dark because he refused to wear the proper wedding garments.
Simon: There’s been so much social media buzz about heaven. Some might see it as a lavish banquet; others: a chill VIP lounge. The vibe: “Come as you are, stay as you are, zero judgment.”
Ty: The irony? The invitation is free, but it isn’t cheap. We may come as we are, but we are invited to change.
Simon: We put aside our old rags of pride and selfishness as we enter into God’s kingdom.
Ty: God takes us as we are, but God loves us too much to leave us that way.
Simon: The feast is ready. Put on some threads of grace!
