Jesus Doesn’t Begin With Explanations | One-Minute Homily

Jesus offers us the same peace that he offered the disciples after Easter. Brennan Dour, SJ asks: how will you embrace and share his peace? Based on the readings for Divine Mercy Sunday.

Jesus doesn’t begin with explanations, he begins with peace.

Hi, I’m Brennan Dour, and this is my One-Minute reflection.

When we hear about Jesus appearing to the disciples after Easter, it’s easy to focus on their doubt. But that is not the point of the story, it is that Jesus is the source of their belief.

Before he says anything else to them , Jesus offers the disciples his peace. It is through his peace that they recognize him and are sent forth.

The disciples face real uncertainties after Jesus’s death, but his peace overcomes them. It is stronger than their fears. Peace opens them to belief.

Jesus greets the disciples with his peace, and he greets us with that same peace today. We don’t need to put our hands into his wounds, because we can experience the peace of his presence anytime we turn to him.

In this joyful season of the Lord’s Resurrection, savor the gift of Jesus’s peace, and share it with others.
