God can be found in surprising places. Chris Kinkor, SJ reflects on how Jesus uses a man’s blindness to show God’s healing power. Based on the readings for the 4th Sunday of Lent.
Hey, I’m not judging!
Hi, I’m Chris Kinkor, and this is my One Minute Reflection.
Maybe your parents taught you phrases like “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” or “There’s more than meets the eye.”
In John 9, Jesus puts those words into action. He angers the Pharisees by healing a man on the Sabbath. They assume the man’s blindness must be the result of sin, but Jesus rejects that judgment. Instead, he shows this man’s healing reveals God’s saving work. Ironically, the formerly blind man becomes the true witness, while the religious leaders stay blind.
Where we see only weakness and sin, God sees possibility and grace. Let’s trust that God can work through these painful situations to bring healing and hope. Let’s also ask God to help us to see the world as He does, to look beyond labels and find light in surprising places.
