A God Near to Us | One-Minute Homily

by | Dec 7, 2025 | One-Minute Homily

In the season of Advent, we prepare for God to come into our world. Will Hayes, SJ reflects how God coming into a world as the child Jesus means we have a God who wants to come into our arms and into our lives. Bases on the readings for the Second Sunday of Advent.

Advent is about making space to cradle Jesus.

Hi, I’m Will Hayes and this is my one-minute reflection. In a bedtime story for my nephews, I invited them to imagine walking alongside Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem, feeling the hope and anticipation of the arrival of Jesus. I asked them to imagine being there at the manger, when the Savior was born into the world. Then came a quiet moment: Mary looking into their eyes, inviting them to cradle the baby Jesus. In that moment, I saw how close God wants to be to us—not distant or abstract, but small enough to be held. Advent, is about preparing for a God who comes down to be held.

Have you ever cradled Jesus in your arms? This advent, pray for the space to receive him into your life.
