Our Yes, God’s Grander Plans | One-Minute Homily

by | Oct 5, 2025 | One-Minute Homily

God works with what we give—even if that is only a tiny mustard seed. Will Hayes, SJ reflects how God can transform even the smallest of yesses. Based on the readings for the 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time.

God can do more with a tiny yes than you could with a thousand grand plans.

Hi, I’m Will Hayes, and this is my one-minute reflection.

In Luke 17, the apostles cry out, “Lord, increase our faith!” But Jesus doesn’t answer with a lightning bolt or a miracle. Instead, He says, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed…” That’s it. Just a seed.

It doesn’t have to be big or polished—God just asks for something real.

There are days when I feel like I don’t have much to give. But this Gospel reminds me: God can work with even the smallest yes. A sincere word, a quiet prayer, a simple act of love—these are mustard seeds.
