You are the light of the world! How do we share that light with others? Alex Hale, SJ, reflects on ways that we can distract from the light and how we can make sure that it shines bright. Based on the readings for Sunday, February 5, 2023.
Do you share Christ in a way that other people can hear the message?
I’m Alex Hale and this is my One-Minute Reflection.
I’m sure we’ve all sat through a meeting or class that can only be described as profoundly boring. The material may have been important and even interesting, but the message gets lost because of a monotone or passionless presenter. This is part of what Jesus is talking about today.
The goodness of the light is the light itself but we may cover it up with words, a lack of passion and action, or share it in a way that causes division and drives people away from God. Even worse, we may be seen as hypocrites, further souring the taste of the word for those hungry to receive it.
So be a light in darkness for the upright. Share your bread with the hungry, shelter the homeless, clothe the naked. Share God’s light in words and deeds. Then your light will truly shine forth like the dawn.
