TJP Recognized by the Catholic Press Association

by | Jun 21, 2014 | Uncategorized

Look, if you’re one of our regular readers, you know that The Jesuit Post is awesome1 – but now we’ve got proof. Last night in Charlotte, the Catholic Press Association gave out their annual awards, and TJP took home three firsts, plus an honorable mention.  We are extremely grateful to our colleagues and friends at the CPA for their support and for recognizing our work.

In light of this we wanted to share the good news with our readers, and ICYMI we wanted to showcase some of our content that won. It is some great stuff, so if you enjoy it, please share it with friends and family.

Honorable Mention – Best Freestanding Online/Multimedia Presentation of Video

This one went to our Ask Iggy series, done by Eric Sundrup and Radmar Jao. One of our favorites of these was the “Jesuit Conspiracy Theories” edition – though don’t read too much into that. Or think about it for too long. In fact, forget we said that. Nothing to see here, move along.

First Place – Best Online/Multimedia Presentation of Visuals

This one goes to Tim O’Brien’s piece introducing Mary Is My Homegirl to a wider audience through his interview with the (still anonymous) blogger. Since she’s remaining incognito in her PhD program, we’ll be magnanimous and collect a prize for her excellent use of animated GIFs.

Actually, we considered submitting this one for a prize in the interview category, but we figured that this year in particular, Best Interview was probably already locked up. Speaking of which …

First Place – Best Online Content Not Published in Print

Wait for it, wait for it...

Wait for it, wait for it…

We won in this category for our package of reactions and analysis responding to Pope Francis’s interview. If you didn’t get a chance to read them all then, well, here’s your chance. But please, if you print them out don’t tell anyone — we wouldn’t want to disqualify ourselves.

First Place – Best Online Blog – Group

Finally, the one we’re proudest of – not for any one piece or post, but for TJP itself. The whole staff contributed to this, but so did our whole readership. This whole place only works because readers comment and share and help us get the word out about a way to look at the world through the eyes of faith that is broad enough to take in everything from papal interviews to pop culture, and come through it more hopeful and convinced than ever that God’s at work in our world. So thank you all – and please let us know in the comment what pieces you think we ought to put on the shortlist for award nominations next year.

P.S. If you’ve noticed some site downtime recently, that’s not because we’re having server issues. It’s just that we want to compete for Best Offline Blog next year.

  1. By regular readers we of course mean our mothers. Thanks MOM!
