Jesus Doesn’t Promise an Easy Life | One-Minute Homily

Jesus makes significant demands of us in Matthew 10, but his promise for our lives is far greater than anything we could imagine. Based on the readings for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Sorry mom – I can’t talk right now – I’m working on my relationship with Jesus.

Hi, I’m Brennan Dour, and this is my One-Minute reflection.

Jesus makes some significant demands of us in Matthew 10. He tells us that we must lose our lives to find life, and that everything must take a back seat to following him, even the relationships we hold most dear

Alongside Jesus’s call to take up our daily cross, this message can seem heavy.

That’s okay – we don’t always see the fullness of God’s plan. The life of faith demands real and sometimes costly sacrifices.

But Jesus’s promise for our lives is far greater than anything we could imagine. When we trust him and remember his broader vision, those challenging parts of his message come into clearer focus.

Jesus doesn’t promise an easy life, he promises new life. Each time we choose selfless love, we make more room for him in our hearts and that new life he so desires to give us.
