Share Your Light | One-Minute Homily

by | Feb 8, 2026 | One-Minute Homily

Don’t be afraid to share your light with the world. Chris Kinkor, SJ reflects on how our service to the marginalized helps show God to those around us. Based on the readings for the 5th Sunday of Ordinary Time.

You have a light to share with the world. Don’t be afraid to let it shine!

Hi, I’m Chris Kinkor, and this is my One Minute Reflection.

We all know the song, “This Little Light of Mine.” It echoes Jesus’ words in Matthew 5, where he calls us to let our light shine before others so God may be glorified.

That can feel uncomfortable. We may worry it looks self-centered or draws attention to ourselves.

But Jesus isn’t asking us to seek the spotlight. He asks us to serve those on the margins. When we feed the hungry, visit the sick, or shelter the homeless, we’re not saying, “Look at how great I am.” We’re saying, “Look at how God is laboring in our world.”

Our good works show the Holy Spirit at work in the world. So everywhere we go, let’s share our light—and truly let it shine.
