God’s mercy is already deep within us. Kevin, Lee SJ reflects how the Parable of the Good Samaritan invites us to share that mercy with our neighbors – that is everyone we encounter. Based on the readings for the 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Neighborly mercy is closer than you think.
Hi, I’m Kevin Lee and this is my One-Minute Reflection.
In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan. On the road to Jericho, a man is beaten down, and while two pass him by, a third stops to help. At the end, the true neighbor is identified as “the one who treated him with mercy.”
It can be daunting to engage one with mercy. Our mind can become flustered with: What do I say? What do I do? What if I mess up?
But, Moses reminds us that God’s command is not far off, but rather “something very near to you … and in your hearts.” God’s mercy already resides within us, and that mercy pushes us to connect with our neighbor. As we go through this week we just need to listen to our hearts and respond to our neighbor with the God given mercy within.
