Why did the three kings travel from far away to see Jesus? Jordan Jones, SJ, reflects on how the heart of Christ draws all people to Himself. Based on the readings for The Epiphany of the Lord.
What makes us truly attractive?
Hi, I’m Jordan Jones, and this is my one-minute reflection.
Today is Epiphany Sunday when the Church remembers the Three Kings who traveled from distant lands to visit the newborn child Jesus. What made them travel to Jesus?
In our first reading, the Prophet Isaiah says that if the people of Israel are faithful to the law and prophets, “their radiance will shine before the nations,” and people from far-off places will bring them gifts. The child Jesus is the fulfillment of ALL the law and prophets of the Old Testament, so it makes sense that an actual light, a star, shone at his birth to guide kings from far away.
Jesus is the perfect example of how we all should live. The captivating character of his life of sacrificial love is written into the human heart. Not surprisingly, we are attracted to him, and the more we model him, the more we, too, become lights to those around us.
