We learn the most when we’re most open to the newness of Christ. Brian Kemper, SJ, reflects on how Jesus call us to respond with the fullness of love. Based on the readings from the
God always teaches us the way.
Hi, I’m Brian Kemper and this is my one minute reflection.
For the past two years, I’ve taught middle school students and I’ve found that so many of them are nervous to raise their hands. Often they’re embarrassed or worried about “saying the wrong thing…” so they never speak up. As a teacher, though, that’s what I want the most out of my students: to raise their hands even when they are unsure. That’s when we learn the most!
In today’s Gospel, the Apostles get caught up in an argument about who is the greatest, and when Jesus interrupts them they fall silent. He doesn’t scold; he simply teaches. Our God wants us to bring our problems, concerns, joys, and happiness to him. He wants us to “raise our hands” and engage with him, even if we don’t have it all figured out.
So today, let’s remember to turn to Jesus, our greatest teacher, and know that he will always be there to show us the way.
