Presentation of the Lord: Simeon and the Holy Spirit | One-Minute Homily

by | Feb 2, 2020 | One-Minute Homily, Videos

How is the Holy Spirit calling you? Damian Terres-Botello, SJ, recounts how the Holy Spirit led Simeon to Jesus and encourages all of us to keep the same guidance. Based on the readings for Sunday, February 2, 2020.

If it’s good for the Holy Spirit then it’s good for me too!

Hello! I’m Damian Torres-Botello and this is my One-Minute Reflection.

St. Luke introduces us to old man Simeon, described as righteous and devout. So much so the Holy Spirit promised him he would not see death until he had seen Christ the Lord.

The interaction between Simeon and the Holy Spirit reveals how important the Holy Spirit is for St. Luke, but more importantly, it shows us the Holy Spirit is always near and interacting in our lives too.

You know that little urge you may have to pray? Or that impulse to call someone you know who needs a friend? Or maybe it’s that yearning to find some space and take a break. Those are nudges from the Holy Spirit!

The Spirit that was upon Simeon is the same Spirit that dwells in us too. And it could be that we’re too distracted to even notice. So, if you do something that surprises you, like watching this entire one-minute reflection, consider the Holy Spirit is involved, inviting you to see something you haven’t seen before.
