Alvaro entered the Jesuits in 2022 and is currently studying philosophy at Fordham University in the Bronx. He is originally from Los Angeles and has a B.A. in History and Spanish from the University of California, Berkeley. Before entering the Society, he worked in communications for several elected officials in Los Angeles. He was also a co-coordinator of the Fifth National Encuentro of Hispanic/Latino Ministry for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. As a Jesuit, he has served as a jail and hospital chaplain, worked at Homegirl Cafe, offered spiritual direction, and facilitated a storytelling space for Spanish-speaking women in the Bronx. He enjoys rooting for the Lakers and Dodgers, exploring the city on foot, and spiritual conversation.
