Schools of Love | One-Minute Homily

by | Dec 28, 2025 | One-Minute Homily

Families are our first school of love. Ty Wahlbrink, SJ reflects that God could have chosen any way to enter the world—but God chose to have a family. Based on the readings for the Feast of the Holy Family.

Families are messy. But it’s where love learns to grow.

Hi, I’m Ty Wahlbrink and this is my one-minute reflection.

Just a few days ago, we celebrated Christmas, when God chose to take on our human flesh. And now, so soon after, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. God could have arrived with a trumpet chorus or have materialized out of thin air. Instead, God chose to enter the world as a child with a biological mother and an adopted father.

This feast reminds us that our roots matter. Just like a tree’s roots nourish its growth, the people and places of our early days shape us.

Our families—both those we’re born into and those we choose—are our first schools of love. In everyday acts of generosity and sacrifice, we learn what love truly is. Families nurture us so that, like Jesus, we can be sent into the world to share that love with others.
