Jesus is the only one that can bring all of humanity together. Kevin Lee, SJ reflects how this Gospel passage, though seemingly confusing, points to the unitive power of Christ and the Eucharist. Based on the readings for the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Ever read the Gospel and think, “Well, that can’t be right.”
Hi, I’m Kevin Lee and this is my One-Minute reflection.
The Gospel can often be confusing and sometimes even off putting. In Luke 14, we hear Jesus say, “If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.” Yikes!
However, Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, has the power to be the foundation of all. He is the one that unites us all together in one Body, which is what we celebrate in the Eucharist.
Who could do that? Only Jesus.
Jesus invites us to make him the core of our lives, so that we can all be united as one people in Christ. By “rejecting” our families and following Christ, we will then be paradoxically brought back together as one loving family.
