Mothers show the way for their children. Greg Okumu, SJ reflects how this feast invites Christians to view Mary as our guide to heaven. Based on the readings for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Where I am, my mother may also be!
Hi, I’m Greg Okumu, and this is my One-Minute Reflection.
When I was a child, I followed my mom almost everywhere. I just wanted to be near her. And even now as an adult—every joy, every moment that matters—I still want her to be part of it.
Jesus had a mom too!
As the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we celebrate that Jesus did not leave her mother behind. Mary was taken up—body and soul—into heaven. Not just because she gave birth to Jesus, but because she listened to God. She remained obedient to God’s will; that is why she is called Blessed.
Mary followed Jesus all the way—and now she’s where Jesus is. That’s the goal, right?
So today we ask:
Mary, take us with you. We want to be where Jesus is.
