A Model of Humility | One-Minute Homily

by | Aug 31, 2025 | One-Minute Homily

In today’s world, true humility may not be well understood—much less valued. Will Hayes, SJ reflects how Jesus Christ is a model for all people. Based on the readings for the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Actions speak louder than words. We’ve all heard that before. For Jesus, it’s more than a saying—it’s a way of life.

Hi, I’m Will Hayes and this is my one-minute reflection.

Jesus didn’t just teach humility; He lived it. Born in a wooden manger, far from comfort or honor. Dying on a wooden cross, rejected and mocked. Jesus always took the lowest place, and in doing so, He lifted us up.

In Luke 14, He tells us, “Go and take the lowest place.” / That’s not just advice for dinner parties—it’s an invitation to live with humility, generosity, and love.

Jesus’ humility is the model. He is God—and yet He knelt, He served, He suffered. He isn’t asking us to do anything He didn’t do Himself.

Real greatness isn’t in being honored, it’s imitating Christ. Today, let’s follow Him not just with words, but with lives shaped by His example of self-giving love.
