A Prayer for Every Situation | One-Minute Homily

by | Jul 27, 2025 | One-Minute Homily

Do we always take the time for prayer? Jose Oros, SJ reflects on how the Our Father, a prayer memorized by so many, can apply in almost any situation. Based on the readings for the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

“Feeling stressed? Feeling Needy? God’s got you.

Hi, I’m José Oros, and this is my One-Minute reflection.

Life gets busy. From deadlines, to caring for loved ones, it’s easy to lose sight of our own needs. This is when we need to turn to prayer.

In the Gospel, Christ’s disciples ask “Lord, teach us to pray.”

And He offers the Our Father—a prayer so simple, yet it holds everything we truly need:

Our hope for something greater – is expressed in “Thy kingdom come…”

Our physical needs are voiced in “Give us this day our daily bread…”
Our need for mercy and healing. — “Forgive us our sins…

The Our Father gathers all of life—body, soul, relationships—into one prayer of trust. In praying, we place ourselves with the One who already knows what we need.
