Is it time to head to deeper waters?
I’m Father Michael Mohr, and this is my One Minute Homily,
After a long night of fishing and with nothing to show for it, Peter understandably hesitates to go back out and into deeper waters. As he quickly learns, when we follow the Word of God, we can expect to be astonished.
Sometimes, the mundane routines of our life create a stale sense of comfort, leaving us hesitant to break out of the familiar, even if we would like to! This is also the case in the spiritual life. Our faith is nourished and renewed through our response to Christ’s invitation toward depth.
Peter’s trust in Jesus’s invitation “to go out into deeper waters” reminds us of the limitless horizon of possibilities when we listen to God’s voice. This week in our prayer, we might ask God, “In what ways are you calling me to go deeper?
The stirrings we have in our heart for depth, discerned with God, will, if followed, undoubtedly leave us astonished.
