Come Holy Spirit! On Pentecost Sunday we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit. Tucker Redding, SJ, reflects on the Spirit’s ability to bring us together and compel us to action. Based on the readings for Sunday, June 5, 2022.
Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
Hi, My name is Tucker Redding and this is my One-Minute reflection.
Today we celebrate Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the followers of Jesus. We are reminded of how the Holy Spirit continues to work in our own lives.
The Holy Spirit can unite us. It compelled the followers of Jesus to proclaim the works of God in different languages so that all would be able to hear and understand.
But the Holy Spirit doesn’t erase our differences. The same Spirit produces different gifts in all of us. We all have different gifts and experiences and can contribute to the work of God.
The Holy Spirit also compels us to action. The disciples proclaimed God boldly when previously they hid in fear. The Holy Spirit can help us to be bold, proclaim the Kingdom of God and stand up against injustice.
Come Holy Spirit! Unite us and help us to act.
