2nd Sunday of Advent: Waiting for Joy | One-Minute Homily

by | Dec 5, 2021 | One-Minute Homily, Videos

Are you ready? Patrick Saint-Jean, SJ, reflects on the theme of preparation in Advent by remembering what it was like to joyfully wait for his grandmother. Based on the readings for Sunday, December 5, 2021.

Are you ready?

Hi, my name is Patrick Saint-Jean and this is my One-Minute Reflection.

When I was a kid, my grandmother would visit me almost every month. As I waited for her to arrive, I felt much the way I feel today during the season of Advent. Her visit was the coming of Joy.

Before each of her visits, I would spend time getting ready for her. I would: clean my room, finish my homework, and wait for her arrival with joyful hope.

After each visit, when she was about to leave, I would ask, “When will you come back again?”

She would reply, “No worries, I am here. You will see me again before you know it.”

On this second Sunday of Avent, Luke invites us to engage in a similar dynamic with the coming of Christ. The Gospel calls us to prepare the way.  In other words, we need to finish our business and then wait with hope.

Because just like my grandmother, Christ as the minister of Joy will be here again before we know it.

Are you ready?
