Advent is here and Jesus reminds us to be attentive and stay awake! Damian Torres-Botello, SJ, kicks off a brand new season and new look to the One-Minute Homily. Based on the readings for Sunday, December 1.
It’s Advent! Stay awake! Let the waiting begin!
Hello! I’m Damian Torres-Botello and this is my One-Minute Reflection.
Our lives are so busy! My goodness! Work and classes, meetings, projects and deadlines and that’s not even mentioning family and friends and lives! I’m already tired!
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that before the flood of Noah’s fame, people were so involved in themselves and all the activities of life that they didn’t even see the floodwaters coming until they were swept away! Let’s not be like that.
Jesus is reminding us to stay awake! Pay attention! Be alert! And how do we remain attentive? By being present, of course! And that’s Jesus’ invitation to us: be right where our feet have us standing.
And in being present we can recognize the Lord in our lives! So when life’s interruptions throw us off, we can turn to God more readily. What an invitation! And on this first day of Advent!
What might you do this Advent to help you remain vigilant as you prepare the way for our Lord?
