The Jesuit Mission Today

by | Feb 19, 2019 | Faith & Politics, Spirituality, The Jesuits

Today the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Father Arturo Sosa, SJ, released the “Universal Apostolic Preferences” of the Society. The four preferences are meant to guide and inspire Jesuits in their mission and works over the next ten years: “to hear the voice of the Spirit and to take action.”

The preferences are the fruit of a world-wide discernment over two years, and come to the Society as a mission from Pope Francis, who prayed over and approved them.

The four preferences are:

1.PROMOTING DISCERNMENT AND THE SPIRITUAL EXERCISES

Helping people find Jesus Christ and follow Him

2. WALKING WITH THE EXCLUDED

Walk alongside the poor, the vulnerable, the excluded and those whom society considers worthless, in a mission of reconciliation and justice

3. JOURNEYING WITH YOUTH

Accompany young people in the creation of a hope-filled future

4. CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME

Work, with Gospel depth, for the protection and renewal of God’s Creation

TJP invites you to join us in prayer for the success of these preferences in inspiring Jesuits, Catholics and all people of good will to serve God and His people.
