These last weeks of the summer are the season of slowing down for Jesuits — time for summer vacation (“villa,” in Jesuit-ese) and for annual eight-day retreats. Brendan Busse explains why he’s going to fall off the map of social media for more than a week: because he needs God.
With our contributors all over the place on retreat and vacation, TJP’s slowed down a bit too. But last week, we still:
- Wondered which Batman villains would have been better than Bane, with Chris Schroeder
- Mapped loss and compassion, with Tim O’Brien’s reflection on the AIDS quilt
- Met some married miracles, as Perry Petrich reflected on a couple he saw in church
A quiet week, but we’ll be back to full speed soon. In the mean time, please join us in celebrating and praying for our brother Jesuits who pronounced first vows yesterday, or will do so this coming Saturday, in the various U.S. novitiates. (For a quick explanation of where first vows falls in the sequence of Jesuit formation, check here.)
