“Evolution vs. Genesis” and Other Fossils

Evolution “versus” Genesis?  Faith “versus” reason?  Science “versus” religion?

Go ahead and argue about it.  For us Catholics, it’s kind of like arguing about chocolate “versus” peanut butter.  Silly, right?  It would have Mr. Reese rolling over in his grave.  It might even induce him to come back to tell us (in a ghostly but nonetheless cajoling tone) that these tastiest of elements, while different, are actually quite compatible.  The proof is in the pudding… or in the peanut butter cup, as it were.

Chocolate and peanut butter.  Different, but compatible.  Pope John Paul II once (or twice) said the same about science and faith.  And TJP’s Quang Tran, being an avid JP2 fan, couldn’t agree more.  He couldn’t help but notice, though, that for a lot of folks the Church’s good feelings about science and faith seem to be a well-kept secret.  This is why Quang tracked down Dr. Kenneth Miller for an interview.

Miller is the author of Finding Darwin’s God: A Scientist’s Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution He’s also a celebrated molecular biologist and a practicing Catholic.  Check out some excerpts of his conversation with Quang Tran about science, faith, evolution and Scripture.  And if you find yourself liking the short vid, check out the full version (in three parts) below it!

FYI, you’ll hear Quang and Dr. Miller talking about a YouTube video by Bill Nye, The Science Guy.  Quang scrawled down some thoughts about this vid for TJP back in September.   You’ll find his original post – and Bill Nye’s video – HERE.

Without further ado, here are some excerpts from Quang and Dr. Miller’s conversation:

And here, in three short vids, is the full interview:
