Sir, we would like to see Jesus.
— John 12:21, from today’s Gospel
The Gospel tells us that some Greeks make this request of Philip; Philip tells Andrew and together they pass the request to Jesus. And Jesus answers with words about his death and resurrection: “Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat. But if it dies, it produces much fruit.” Is this then, what it means to see Jesus?
Where do I express my desire to see Jesus more clearly? Who around me expresses that desire to me? What kind of answer do I find?
