The Image of God | One-Minute Homily

by | Oct 18, 2026 | One-Minute Homily

You have the image of God inscribed within you. Kevin Lee, SJ reflects on how we are made in the image and likeness of God and how that calls us to live our life as an offering. Based on the readings for the 29th Sunday of Ordinary Time.

Jesus says to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and give to God what is God’s. But, what is God’s?

In today’s Gospel, Jesus points out to the Pharisees that their coins have Caesar’s image inscribed on them. This was to remind everyone at a glance that those coins ultimately belonged to Caesar. If this is the case, then what has the image of God inscribed on it?

Wait, you do! I do! We are made in the image and likeness of God! We belong to God! Take a moment to realize that. You have the image of God inscribed within you. Amazing.

Not only is Jesus reminding us that God will never forget, neglect, nor ignore us. Jesus is encouraging us to live our lives as an offering. By remaining close to God and allowing him to guide our lives, our very selves will reflect His face.
