Jesus shepherds us and calls us to shepherd others. Simon Zachary, SJ reflects on Jesus’s empathy for others. Based on the readings for the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Do you ever feel like a sheep without a shepherd? Bro, what does that even mean?
Hi, I’m Fr. Simon Zachary, and this is my One Minute Homily.
In Matthew 9, Jesus sees crowds of people with many illnesses and sends his disciples to heal them. Jesus was “moved with pity”. Matthew suggests he felt that pain in his chest, in his gut. He was the Good Shepherd and saw sheep who were lost. If Jesus was lavish in his care and concern for others, how much more can we trust that Jesus cares for us just the same? And, we can take the late Pope Francis’s advice and attempt to smell like the sheep. We are all called to walk with one another. The work of healing, of justice, can often take an entire village, or even an entire flock of sheep! Could YOU be the shepherd?
