Ghosting and rejection are more ubiquitous than ever in our online landscape. Jon Jue-Wong, SJ reflects on how through the Eucharist, God enters and remains in our lives always. Based on the readings for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi).
You may get ghosted in this life… but never by Jesus.
Hi, I’m Jon Jue-Wong and this is my One-Minute reflection.
Maybe it’s a cute date you were messaging, a newish friend, or a potential employer, but we’ve all probably experienced being dropped with no explanation at one point or another in our online, commitment-averse world. And no matter how many times it happens, it always hurts.
But in John’s Gospel, something else is on offer. Jesus tells us: “whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.” God arrives and God remains in our lives eternally.
And each time we receive the Eucharist, God is telling us, ‘I love you, full stop, no ifs ands or buts.’
May Christ’s ever-faithful presence in the Eucharist awaken us as well to his presence in those around us. Especially in the unloved, the excluded, and certainly the ghosted as well.
