Our routines and rituals reveal what is most important to us. Kevin Lee, SJ reflects how starting our day off right can lead us closer to God. Based on the readings for the 19th Sunday of Ordinary Time.
What do you reach for in the morning?
Hi, I’m Kevin Lee, and this is my One-Minute reflection.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that the Father wants to give us the Kingdom. However, our hearts must be prepared to receive such a gift, and Jesus reminds us that “where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.”
A friend once asked me, “What is the first thing you do when you wake up? That is what you love most.” Do you hit snooze, or check your phone? Or do you say a prayer, greet a loved one, or bask in the wonder of the world?
Everyday is an opportunity to prepare our hearts, and place our treasure in the Kingdom of God. While we won’t be perfect at it, these small, repetitive acts help to order our hearts toward Christ’s love. Let us strive each morning to seek God and place Christ at the center of our lives.
