How do we understand the mystery of the Trinity? Eric Panicco, SJ, says that love is the key. Based on the readings for The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.
The Trinity: Now that’s a mystery!.
Hi, I’m Eric Panicco and this is my one-minute reflection.
Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. God is one and three: indivisible, relational, and divine.
In today’s first reading from the book of Proverbs, we hear: hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
The Trinity is a mystery. This means that we can always understand it more fully and yet never understand it completely. So, let’s keep it simple.
God is love, and love requires relationship. This one God is a relationship of love. God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all work together to give us good gifts. Love and hope are gifts we receive in our hearts that draw us beyond ourselves towards God and towards one another.
This Sunday calls us to reflect on God’s infinite love, to stand in awe of this mystery, and to trust in God’s good gifts.
