When we can’t be near those that we love, we try to keep in touch and look forward to when we see them again. William Manaker, SJ, reminds us that our relationship with Jesus is no different. Based on the readings fur Sunday, December 3, 2023.
If we keep in touch with Jesus now, we’ll be able to welcome him when he comes again.
Hi, my name is William Manaker, and this is my one-minute reflection.
It’s tough to be separated from the ones we love. As a kid growing up, my family moved a lot, so I was often separated from friends and family. I learned it took a lot of effort to keep in touch, so that when we met again I could greet them with love.
Our relationship with Jesus is no different. We have to keep in touch with Jesus so that when he comes again in glory, we can welcome him with love. But how? First of all, through prayer and the sacraments, but also through learning to see how Jesus is present to us in Spirit through our brothers and sisters.
If we stay in touch—really, in communion—with Jesus in these ways, then we’ll be ready to greet him at the end of time, when he comes again in glory.
