4th Sunday of Advent: Share Your Joy! | One-Minute Homily

by | Dec 19, 2021 | One-Minute Homily, Videos

Elizabeth couldn’t contain her joy when Mary greeted her. Neither should we when we recognize God at work in others. Tucker Redding, SJ, reflects on the Visitation in this week’s One-Minute Homily. Based on the readings for Sunday, December 19, 2021.

Share your joy! It might be exactly what someone else needs.

Hi, I’m Tucker Redding and this is my One-Minute Reflection.

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant in her womb leaped for joy and she was filled with the Holy Spirit. She couldn’t contain herself and she expressed her joy to Mary.

This might have been exactly what Mary needed to hear. She went to Elizabeth because the angel told her that Elizabeth was with child. She was a sign that everything the angel said was true, and that gave her the joy to proclaim her beautiful Magnificat.

There are times when we get to see God at work in other people. When we can see their gifts and their goodness in a way that they may not. We might be tempted to hold these moments in but we should point them out with joy like Elizabeth.

You can be the reason that someone sees the goodness in themselves and is able to say: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord!”
