Where I am going, you cannot follow me now,
though you will follow later.
— John 13:36, from today’s Gospel
The Gospels for the beginning of Holy Week witness Jesus predicting his betrayal by Judas and his abandonment by Peter — warning us, almost, that what we are about to experience in the liturgies of the Triduum, and especially Good Friday, will be a challenge to our desire to follow and be with Jesus.
How do I feel that challenge? What do I do with it, and how do I pray with it? What does it feel like to wait with Jesus, knowing that Good Friday lies ahead?
