Corpus Christi: The Gift of a Lifetime | One-Minute Homily

by | Jun 19, 2022 | One-Minute Homily, Videos

On this Solemnity of Corpus Christi (the Body and Blood of Jesus), Christopher Smith, SJ, reminds us of the great gift that we have in the Eucharist. Based on the readings for Sunday, June 16, 2022.

People have camped out for days to buy tickets to see a rockstar, and waited in lines for hours on Black Fridays for Cabbage Patch Kids and Tickle Me Elmos.

What if I told you that I have the most valuable ticket of all time-a ticket to see Jesus Christ. What would you give or endure to get it?

Hi, I’m Christopher Smith, Happy Corpus Christi, y’all. This is my One-Minute Reflection.

In today’s readings, Paul gives us the earliest written account of the Eucharist. Jesus, he reminds us, took the bread and broke it, took the wine and blessed it, and gave it to the disciples. Jesus does the same for us today giving himself to us, that we may give him by giving ourselves to others. Hallelujah!

We need not wait for hours, nor travel thousands of miles, Jesus is present here and now and we already have a ticket without doing a thing. Thanks be to God for this wonderful gift we celebrate today. Thanks be to God for the Eucharist.
